Come celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. The day will honor the past with a Commemorative March, honor the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement by engaging the community in service projects, recognize community members who make a difference, nourish the mind with thoughtful commentary, bring the community together to break bread, celebrate young artists, and "make a joyful noise" with a concert in
the evening.

Commemorative March
Participants in the Commemorative March will assemble at 9:00 a.m. at the Southgate Community Center. Participants are encouraged to park at RCC Hunters Woods and take the free shuttle bus to Southage Community Center starting at 8:15 a.m. The march will start at 9:30 a.m. and everyone will arrive at RCC Hunters Woods by 10:00 a.m. |

Community Service Projects
RCC is thrilled to be partnering with Reston Interfaith and Reston Association on community service projects. Indoor projects include making lunches for the Embry Rucker Shleter and sorting donations for the nonprofit thrift shop The Closet. Outdoor projects, weather permitting, include removing invasive plant species, marking storm drains, and cleaning up trash. Registration is required. Sorting donations is for ages 13 and up. Children 12 and younger are welcome to participate in other projects, but must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. |

Especially for Youth (1st - 6th Grade)
You may register your school-age child to participate in activities at RCC Hunters Woods. Children should be registered in advance. Children will rotate through a series of activities including games, storytelling/performance, and arts and crafts. All activities will be based on the history of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement. |

Community Service Awards, Keynote Address, and Community Lunch
When the community service projects are done, everyone is invited to return to RCC for a community lunch, presentation of Community Service Awards, and a keynote address by Nnenna Freelon. |

Reception: Art by Reston Elementary Schools
Artwork that is based on the history of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement and is created by Reston elementary school students will hang in the Community Room of the Reston Community Center Hunters Woods from mid-January through the end of the month. The community will pick a "People's Choice" winner on January 16. |

Performance by Nnenna Freelon
The six-time GRAMMY Award nominee and the "international voice of Jazz" performs an electrifying concert to cap off the day of service and celebration. Members of the South Lakes High School Chorus will join Ms. Freelon on stage for one memorable number. |
