Reston Community Center joins the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith once again to help families in need. Tough economic times make this community tradition more vital than ever before to help families in need. Patrons, businesses and organizations are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items from November 1st through the 26th at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods, as well as a variety of other drop-off points throughout the community. Organizations and businesses interested in participating as drop-off points or collection sponsors can call the RCC Community Events department at 703-390-6161 or the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce at 703-707-9045. Volunteers will gather at the RCC on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, from
10:00 a.m. to noon to sort donations for delivery by Reston Interfaith throughout the community.

Schedule of Events to Come

Reston's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration will be on Saturday, January 17, 2009  from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. and Monday, January 19, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  All activities are free. This year's theme "Are We Keeping the Promise?" reflects on the legacy of Dr. King at the 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration.  Everyone is invited to attend the following events:

"Voices of Inspiration, the 15th Anniversary Program Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Church, will be held at The Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation.

Monday, January 19, 2009 - Keynote Speaker NBC4 Anchorman, Jim Vance The Monday schedule of events and activities has something for all members of your family to honor the memory and values of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement to which he gave his life.
Especially for Youth (Reg. #: 704717-9A) - Monday, January 19, 9:30 a.m. registration, 10:00 a.m. program start: You may register your school age child (first through sixth grade) to participate in activities at the Reston Community Center from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Children may be registered in advance. Limited on-site registration will be available on the day of the event; however, all forms must be completed in their entirety.  Children rotate through a series of activities including games, enrichment/storytelling, and arts and crafts. All activities will be based on the history of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement. 
Commemorative March - Participants will assemble at 9:00 a.m. at the Southgate Community Center, and start marching at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at Reston Community Center at 10:00 a.m. This year's Keynote Speaker’s Address, by NBC4 Anchorman, Jim Vance, will be at 11:00 a.m. There will be Community Service Awards presentations, issue discussions, and a community service project related to Dr. King's legacy throughout the day.  We will end the day with community fellowship by breaking bread together at a community lunch.


This year's community project will be to serve others by donating coats and food to Reston Interfaith at the MLK Celebration.
This event is supported by a wide range of religious communities, civic organizations, business groups, and schools.
